Lydney Badgers 2 – Cheltenham Badgers 2
Saturday 8th December 2012
A bright sunny morning greeted the Lydney badgers as they took on Cheltenham badgers for the home fixture at Whitecross. It was a case of divided loyalties for Jan Thomas ( wife of ‘DIT’ Thomas, former president of Lydney) as their young grandson Ben Cupper was playing for Cheltenham. The first half saw Cheltenham take a two goal lead before a fierce shot from Lydney’s Dominique Musgrove was deflected into the Cheltenham goal to reduce their lead to one at halftime.
The passing game played by both sides was appreciated by the loyal supporters as was coach Sam Zala’s use of the rolling substitutes, a luxury the Cheltenham side did not have. Eventually Marcus Hutchinson was able to score the equalizer for Lydney following slick passing by the Lydney forwards. Players of note for Lydney were Lee Morgan and Henry Sleeman in defence, the trickery of Jamie Mathewson the left wing, along with the performances of Elliot Smith and Luke Watts improving with every game they play.
