Ladies 3s fail to cheer up BAC II

BAC II 6 – Lydney III 1
Saturday January 26th 2013

Lydney : A Durham, S Brown, L Gorf, B Worth, Au Durham, A Kirk, B Halford, Br Halford, C Hudsonmason, A Vaughan, B Haile, K Haile.

After last weeks cancellation, the big thaw gave the Ladies thirds a chance for a run out at Abbeywood on Saturday. Two nasty injuries sustained before leaving the car park did not bode well, but gave the warm up a different dimension, with a chance to compare bruises before the game had started.

BAC were faster, stronger and more determined as well as chronologically advantaged over Lydney’s mix of youth and experience. Although they were able to bundle 4 goals over the line before half time, one was a gift from Frog and one bounced off the post to momentarily give keeper Durham the opportunity to wrap it up in some nice paper and tie a bow on top.

Mrs Durham was forced into a number of dangerous liaisons with the barbate BAC forwards, all of which ended in failure for the hirsute home side.

The second half saw a 50% reduction in the opposition’s strike rate with only 2 goals achieved despite numerous attacks on the Lydney goal. Midway through the second half, Claire Hudsonmason picked up an inspired long pass, and found the back of the net with only 2 minor casualties in her wake. Both are expected to leave hospital early in the week.

Man of the match was this week a tie between Sophie “Rock Steady” Brown and Roo “dependable” Durham.

Leaving the match seratonin winners, the Ladies 3rds should reflect on the positives from this visit.

  1. Dramatically improved second half ( see above strike rate statistic )
  2. It wasn’t raining.
  3. The temperature was above freezing.
  4. Fewer injuries sustained than the opposition.
