Ladies 3s narrowly miss stealing points from Thorns

Lydney III 0 – Thornbury III 1
Saturday March 9th 2013

Lydney : A Durham, C Hutchinson, D Webb, K Haile, B Haile, Br Halford, Au Durham, H Parnell, L Matthews, G Sleeman, B Worth, C Hudsonmason,

Missing injured Captain Halford and Ex Captain Kirk ( on duty for the 2s, so likely to expect some degree of bullying on Wednesday ) the 3s put up a fabulous fight against Thornbury Ladies on Saturday. The first half ended 0-0 with near misses from bad boy Beth Haile and myopic Bridget Worth on the near post. Keeper Anne Durham pulled some dramatic and heroic saves out of the bag, while Cath Hutchinson, Karen Haile ( man of the match ) and Di Webb at the back provided protection worthy of a Ross Kemp documentary.

With neither oranges nor Jelly Babies at half time, glycaemic indeces looked set to drop dangerously, but the home team continued the fight, taking the game to Thornbury and attempting to drive down the right at every opportunity. Thornbury’s bad luck finally changed with  10 minutes to go, after a classic drive along the back line and a tidy finish gave them the winner.

Huge thanks to Bev and everyone else behind the scenes on the management team for providing 2 umpires and getting a whole team together ( with a sub ) for this match. This team continues to keep energy levels high with a better than average turn out at training every week and greatly appreciate the work that goes into making these games happen every week.
