Mens Firsts take 3 points from Shepton Mallet

Lydney Men I 4 – Shepton Mallet Men 2
Saturday 18th February 2012

Lydney entertained Shepton Mallet at Whitecross Leisure Centre on Saturday keen to secure three points against their visitors from Somerset.

The first half started with Lydney pushing forward but it was the visitors who took the lead against the run of play with a well struck short corner.

Lydney were soon into their stride and the combination of Ed Richards, Jason Rose and Kevin Broadhurst started to pay dividends with Broadhurst delivering the ball for Will Hunt to level the scores.

A similar move soon after led to Kevin Broadhurst setting up the ball nicely for Tom Cotterell to score with a powerful shot into the roof of the net.

Steve Lewis and Gary James were providing a platform for the midfield combination of Andy Horne and Captain Gavin Moore to push forward at every opportunity.

Lydney increased their lead early in the second half with Will Hunt scoring his second, again neat interplay between Ed Richards and Jason Rose resulting in Kevin Broadhurst supplying the final ball.

Shepton Mallet pulled a goal back late in the game but this was soon cancelled out when Andy Horne scored from a short corner move.

Kevin Broadhurst was this week’s man of the match.
